You will be shocked to know what this mother did for her child……And the whole world was full of Light…!!!
Year 1854, Port Huron, Michigan, where a 7-year-old boy came back from school, with a note from his teacher. He ran to his mother and handed over the note to her and said that the teacher has said that only she can read it. He was so eager to find out what was in the note.
The mother took the note and read it, smiled and said
“the school thinks you are too intelligent for them, they do not have much qualified teachers to teach you, so they have asked me to teach you at home”
The mother then started homeschooling him. At age 11, he showed a voracious appetite for knowledge, reading books on a wide range of subjects. He also developed a method of self-education and independent learning.
At the age of 12 years he started selling newspapers and soon started his own small newspaper, called the “Grand Trunk Herald”.
He also set up a small Laboratory in a train baggage car where he used to conduct chemical experiments. Where a small fire accident also caused minor damage to his hearing ability.
In 1866, at age 19, he moved to Louisville, Kentucky, working for The Associated Press. He chose night working shift so that he can use the day time for his reading and Experimenting.
At the age of 22 he invented an Improved Stock ticker and got paid 40000 USD for the rights from a Stock Telegraph Company.
In 1876, he developed a method to record Sound – Phonograph….!!
In 1879, he invented the electric bulb which filled the world with improved light.
This child was none other than Thomas Edison, who in his entire life 1093 US Patents for his inventions and Improvements.
Days passed and his mother died due to illness and one day he was going through his mother’s old stuff. He found the same school note which his teacher gave to him when he was seven. He started reading and immediately started crying. The note was about him getting expelled from the school due to mental deficiencies.
Before leaving this world in 1931, Thomas Edison penned down his feelings and wrote “Thomas Edison was mentally challenged kid, who was turned into a Genius by his mother”
Though there is not enough evidence of any such letter sent from the school but the story certainly is a great example of how encouraging words, specially from parents can change a child’s future.
If you liked what you read then do share it and spread the positivity and joy of Parenthood.
